KINGSTON – State Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, who last year locked horned with Ulster County Executive Michael Hein over what Hein called “the Cahill Crisis,” is holding off on commenting on a potential congressional run by the county executive.
Hein won reelection earlier this month, a year after he accused Cahill of holding the county’s finances hostage, something Cahill denied, placing the blame on his fellow Democrat.
Now with Hein considering a move to Washington, Cahill is holding off on commenting.
“I think we should let the ink dry on the last election before we start to talk about the next one,” the assemblyman said. “Right now I am helping friends and new colleagues transition into office and wishing other ones well,” he said. “I had several of my colleagues in the Assembly who have moved on to local office or other offices. I have other friends in and around Ulster and Dutchess County who have done the same and that is where my focus is right now. The congressional election is a long way office and is not a focus of anybody. More important to me are the very local offices and of course, the presidential race.”
When Hein sought reelection this year, his Republican opponent, Terry Bernardo, accused him of not committing to a full term.
