GOSHEN – A Newburgh woman, who was placed in the Orange County Jail in Goshen on November 19, took her own life two days later on Saturday, the sheriff’s office reported.
Shandi Parisi, 30, was jailed on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.
Authorities said Parisi had arrived in the Orange County Jail from the Town of New Windsor with bail set at $5000. She was processed in to the facility after passing her medical and mental health suicide screening test.
When she was found unresponsive in her cell, corrections officers along with medical staff immediately began life saving efforts which were continued by EMS workers while Parisi was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center in nearby Town of Wallkill where she was pronounced dead at 11:53 a.m.
Preliminary investigations show that all procedures and policies were followed by jail staff, officials said. Sheriff’s investigators were assigned and will investigating the death further.
The New York State Commission of Corrections was notified of Parisi’s death and will also investigate.
