Gang assault under investigation

PUTNAM VALLEY – The State Police at Cortlandt, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, is currently investigating a gang assault that occurred in the Town of Putnam Valley at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 21.
Preliminary investigation reveals that students from several local high schools met to fight over rival varsity football teams.
During the incident, at least one bystander who was not directly involved in the original altercation was assaulted by a group of students, which resulted in him suffering serious physical injuries, police said. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Trauma Center at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, in serious condition. At this time, the injuries are not believed to be life threatening, according to police.
It was also alleged that the victim was robbed of some belongings during the assault.
