Student charged with starting fire in high school bathroom

ELLENVILLE – Village Police in Ellenville have charged a 15-year-old Ellenville High School student with setting a garbage can on fire in the boys’ bathroom in the school.
The boy was arrested on Tuesday after police and firefighters responded to an activated fire alarm. Everyone was evacuated from the three building complex without incident or injury.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
An investigation identified two boys as potentially involved. As the
result of interviews at the police station, a third youth was brought
in for questioning, he was later charged with felony arson, and released
to the custody of his guardian pending an Ulster County Family Court appearance.
The other youths were questioned and released.
