Monticello hires new village treasurer

MONTICELLO – A new village treasurer has been hired in Monticello to replace Lilu Li, who resigned recently.
The village board named Melissa Demarmels to the post.  She is presently the head accountant for the Sullivan County Department of Public Works.
Mayor Douglas Solomon said she was chosen from a half dozen applicants.
“She has municipal accounting experience,” Solomon said.  “That’s a very narrow field; it’s very hard to find somebody with that kind of experience to fill that kind of position.”
Demarmels will assume her new job on December 1.
