Dutchess Sheriff’s Office investigates counterfeit money

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent series of phony $100 bills being passed in the county. At least three confirmed cases occurred in the last week in LaGrange, Beekman and Pawling areas.
Anyone who thinks they may be a victim of this activity or refused a counterfeit bill is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 845-486-3820 and ask for either Det. Harris or Det. Pfitscher), on the tipline at 845-605-CLUE (2583), or at dcsotips@gmail.com.
Should a person encounter someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill, the sheriff’s office offers a number of tips:

Do not put yourself in danger; always comply with the person’s demands if violence is threatened or implied.
Do not return the bill to the person passing it.
If possible, try to delay the passer with an excuse.
Be observant and take notice of the person’s physical qualities, vehicle description, and license plate number
