GOSHEN – Orange County Government has extended its computer-aided dispatch system to ambulance service in the Town of Wallkill.  At present, police agencies are dispatched in Orange County based on the closest units.
The Automatic Vehicle Locator system uses global positioning satellite technology to track the real-time movements of any equipped vehicle, helping dispatchers more accurately deploy emergency resources.
Wallkill Town Supervisor Daniel Depew, who lobbied for the new system, said if it proves successful, he believes it can be replicated in other localities.
“I think it’s a step forward not just for the Town of Wallkill, but all of Orange County,” Depew said, thanking County Executive Steven Neuhaus and his team at the 911 center for implementing the system.
The first call to dispatch via the automatic vehicular locator program was for a tractor-trailer accident on the westbound I-84 ramp in Wallkill at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.
