NEWBURGH – A man sitting
in the lobby of the Newburgh City Police Station had his cell phone stolen
and was punched in the face by another man who had walked into the building.

The incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. Sunday when the victim plugged his
cell phone into a socket while at the station.

A 36-year-old Newburgh man, identified as Harvel Mayshack, walked in,
sat down and asked the victim if the phone was his. When the man confirmed
it, Mayshack picked it up. The victim confronted the man and Mayshack
punched him in the face and fled with the phone.

Officers located Mayshack with the phone in the area of Broadway and Johnston
Street and placed him under arrest.

Mayshack and the victim are familiar with one another, police said.
