GOSHEN – Demolition of section two of the Orange County Government Center in Goshen began Friday morning with a giant crane ripping down chunks of the building.
The company is working through the weekend in hopes of demolishing the
center portion as soon as possible.
“This is real progress for a government center that has been closed for four years,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus.  “It is actually going to improve all government services because you have all the departments that are spread out – the clerk, the county exec, the DA – all under one roof, all working together and working to improve communications.”.
Neuhaus expects to award bids before the end of the year for the actual
construction portion of the project, which will take 18 to 24 months.
The entire project is estimated at some $70 million.
Once rebuilt, all of the county offices that were moved out to other county buildings and rented office space will be moved into the new building.  That will include Neuhaus’ office and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
