TOWN OF BETHEL – Fire in
a private home in the Smallwood area of the Town of Bethel claimed the
life of a 70-year-old man Wednesday evening.
The victim’s body was found inside the burned out home at 55 East Beech Street. Sullivan County Emergency Services Commissioner Richard Martinkovic said the body was found in his bedroom.
The victim’s identity will not be known until the results of an autopsy. The cause of death is believed to be smoke inhalation, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and remains under investigation, Martinkovic said.
