TOWN OF BETHEL – White Lake Fire Chief Brendon Cunningham was assaulted in the parking lot of the firehouse and the nephew of Bethel Town Highway Superintendent William Crumley has been charged with misdemeanor assault.
State Police at the Liberty barracks arrested John Ryan Doherty, 21, for allegedly attacking Cunningham who sustained a broken nose and other injuries. He was treated and released at a local hospital.
The chief’s brother, Joshua Cunningham, said the reason was because their father, Patrick Cunningham, defeated Doherty’s uncle, the current highway superintendent, in the Tuesday election.
The assault is said to have occurred in the parking lot of the firehouse at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
Chief Cunningham could not be reached for comment Thursday.
