NEWBURGH – City Manager
Michael Ciaravino Thursday declared a state of emergency from noon on
Thursday until further notice following Wednesday’s discovery of
a sewer overflow pipe collapse under Water Street.

A portion of the street was closed off because of the potential threat
to public health and safety. The pipe is 11 feet below the surface of
the road and is some six feet wide and 15 feet long.

Ciaravino is hopeful that city crews will be able to perform the repair
work in-house.
