KINGSON – An Ulster County Court jury acquitted a Poughkeepsie man, Taquan Webb, of murder and assault charges in connection with the Easter 2014 shooting death of Ryan Gray of Poughkeepsie at a New Paltz restaurant.
Basheem Bennett had previously confessed to the shooting. Following his plea to murder and assault, Bennett agreed to testify against Webb for the promise of a reduced sentence.
But, at trial Bennett invoked his right to remain silent and refused to answer any questions about the crime.
Webb also did not testify at the trial nor did he call any witnesses. His attorney argued to the jury that there was insufficient evidence to prove that Webb had the knowledge and intent that Gray would be killed.
