NEW PALTZ –
The 60-year-old New Paltz man, who shot at police officers when they responded
to a residence in the village over the weekend, was shot by a member of
the New Paltz Police Department.

Officials said after the incident the man, who they did not publicly identify,
has been shot, but did not specify who shot him. They did say one officer
had fired back.

On Monday, Police Chief Joseph Snyder said the man remains in critical
but stable condition at a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
No charges have been filed to this point.

The investigation into the officer’s weapon discharge is being handled
by the State Police and Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

Snyder said the officer’s name will not be released.

The Town of Newburgh Tactical Unit also assisted in the incident over
the weekend.
