Lawmakers and library supporters celebrate the funding

HIGHLAND – Construction of the new Highland Public Library can go forward now that the deed to the property in the hamlet was formally transferred from St. Augustine’s Parish to the library.
To assist paying for the $4 millionnew facility, state Assemblyman Frank
Skartados secured $250,000 and Senator George Amedore got $200,000. The
senator said the money will be put to good use.
“You think about the young children to the oldest of seniors who use libraries to learn, to go and read, and do some research, and this is a great investment to help with that health of our communities,” Amedore said.
The library currently is in a more than 100-year-old Victorian home in the village.
