MONTICELLO – A Fulton, New York woman was found guilty of violent felony assault for inflicting life-threatening injuries on her three-year-old son.
Saundra Hansson, 23, was also convicted of obstructing breathing or blood circulation.
The verdict came following an eight-day trial, during which evidence was presented that while visiting Sullivan County between June 15 and June 18, 2014, he assaulted the child causing serious injuries, said District Attorney James Farrell.
“He was bleeding internally; he had severe abdominal bleeding and damage that required treatment,” Farrell said.  “His pelvis was broken in three different spots and he was still walking around. He was a child who was still walking around because that’s all he knew.”
The injuries were so severe that one veteran pediatric emergency room doctor from Westchester Medical Center broke down on the witness stand after describing the terrible nature of the injuries she witnessed on the child.
Farrell said a stranger spotted the child at the Short-Line bus terminal and called Monticello Police, sparking a criminal investigation.
Hansson faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced in December.
