North Salem man charged with possessing switchblade, other crimes

CARMEL – A man acting suspiciously in a car in a parking lot at the Brewster Ice Arena on Fields Lane in the Town of Southeast resulted in his arrest by a Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy.
Police say Austin Garafola, 18, of North Salem, was in possession of marijuana, a switchblade knife, and a fraudulent Maryland driver’s license.  As a result he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and ad forged instrument as well as possession of marijuana.                  He was released after posting $250 cash bail.
If found guilty Garafola faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
