Coming soon – movies

TOWN OF THOMPSON – The old movie theater, dormant for years, in the Thompson Mall will be reconstructed now that building permits have been issued. Plans call for a six-screen theater.
Construction is expected to start next week with completion expected by the Christmas holidays or shortly thereafter.
“The Town of Thompson has been anxious for the former Mall Cinema to be reopened for some time,” said Town Supervisor William Rieber. “It is our understanding that negotiations between the mall owners and the developer – James Kula, owner of Middletown Cinemas – have been stymied with legal issues for years. When the issues were resolved the developer submitted for a building permit.”
Rieber said plan review was expedited enabling a quick issuance of the building permit by the Thompson building department.  He said the project is expected to cost $1 million.
Town residents “look forward to watching movies in our own backyard,” Rieber said.
