POUGHKEEPSIE – The PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Support program is coming to Dutchess County.
State Senator Susan Serino (R, Hyde Park) announced on Thursday that she secured $185,000 to fund the program, which until now, operated only in 15 counties.
“We can never underestimate the sacrifices of our military service members,” said county Veterans Services Director Nelson Eddy Rivera. Many of those veterans “carry the scar of battle with them forever, and at times need a fellow comrade that has walked in the same combat boots to reach out to.” That is the goal of the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program – to help fulfill our commitment to take care of our veterans.”
The program was name for Dwyer, a US Army soldier, who died as a result of complications from PTSD and subsequent abuse and depression.
