MARLBOROUGH – A local woman is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond following her arrest on charges that she threatened her roommate by sending threatening emails.
Marlborough Town Police arrested Linda Cass, 51, of Marlborough following a six-month investigation.
On March 9, a local resident reported receiving those emails from several unknown people, purporting to be members of a crime organization and on different occasions threatened to harm or kill him if he did not hand over $9,000.
On Monday, September 21, police executed a search warrant on Cass’ home in Marlborough and seized several commuters. As a result, she was charged with grand larceny by extortion, grand larceny with a property value of over $3,000, stalking as a hate crime, and five counts of aggravated harassment, all as felonies.
Marlborough Police were assisted in the investigation by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and State Police Troop F Computer Crime Unit.
