THOMPSON – The Town of Thompson and Village of Monticello are joining forces to explore issues and opportunities facing the neighboring communities.
Sullivan County is kicking in $5,000 with the municipalities matching that amount to hire the Pace University Land Use Law Center to discuss future strategies, said Town Supervisor William Rieber.
“Pace University Land Use Institute is very good at facilitating discussion and coming up direction,” Rieber said “So we are going to let them take the lead as an outside agency that really doesn’t have ties to this area to work with us and identify the problems and we will see where it goes. We are totally open on all counts.”
Village Mayor Douglas Solomon said “There is a tremendous amount of growth coming down the pike and the town and village will work together to tackle it properly.”
The Montreign Casino and Adelaar Resort development project, coupled with others that are planned for the county, are expected to change the face of Sullivan and the local officials want to be prepared to handle the expected growth and demands on municipal services.
