WHITE PLAINS – An off-duty
New York City police officer faces 25 years in state prison when sentenced
in December on his guilty plea on Tuesday to two counts of attempted murder,
two counts of assault, all felonies, and misdemeanor DWI.
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Brendan Cronin,
28, of Yonkers, was en route home from City Island after spending a day
of in-service training at the New York Police Department’s Firearms
and Tactics Section in the Bronx.
While his vehicle was parked at about 11:55 p.m. on April 29, 2014, he
approached a vehicle occupied by two people that was stopped at a traffic
light, stood next to the passenger side and opened fire into the car with
a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
One victim was shot six times and suffered serious injuries requiring
several operations.
Cronin tried to leave the scene and was stopped a few blocks away by Pelham
Police and it was determined he was driving drunk.
Bail was set at $150,000.
