WASHINGTON – The federal Department of Labor announced a round of YouthBuild grants to support academic and occupational skills training for at-risk youth.
YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County, in Kingston, will receive $925,714 while Nubian Directions II in Poughkeepsie will receive $1.1 million and Westchester County Department of Social Services in White Plains will get $1.1 million.
All three programs have previously received funding.
YouthBuild is a non-residential, community-based alternative education
program that provides classroom instruction and occupational skills training
in construction and other in-demand occupations. The program served 16-to-24-year-olds
who have dropped out of high school and who have been in the justice system,
are aging out of foster care, have dropped out of high school, or are
otherwise at-risk of failing to reach key educational and career milestone.
