ELMSFORD – Pets Alive Westchester in Elmsford has closed its doors after a five-year run as a no-kill animal sanctuary. The operation was part of the Pets Alive organization headquartered in the Town of Wallkill.
Structural issues with a 40,000 square foot building coupled with declining revenue and increased operating costs forced the closure of the Westchester operation.
The Wallkill facility will care for the 61 cats and dogs that were previously
housed at the Elmsford shelter. The Middletown Pets Alive now has over
300 dogs, cats and farm animals.
The board of the Westchester operation is accepting proposals for acquisition of its property by a qualified no kill animal rescue operation.
