Newburgh second grade teacher named 2016 New York State Teacher of the Year

NEWBURGH – The New York State Board of Regents announced on Thursday that Dana McDonough has been named the 2016 New York State Teacher of the Year.
McDonough is a second grade teacher a Fostertown ETC Magnet School in
the Enlarged Newburgh City School District. She is “the epitome
of what a teacher should be, she is dedicated, loving, conscientious and
diligent,” said Fostertown Principal Maritza Ramos. “She truly
goes above and beyond to help her students whether educationally or socially
and emotionally.”
Ramos said she “strives for her students’ success. She makes connections with her students, parents and colleagues to ensure that her students are successful. It’s all about the students.”
McDonough is being recognizes for the outstanding teaching and learning that happens in her classroom each year.
“I am glad New York State recognizes what we already know… our district has great teachers,” said Superintendent Dr. Roberto Padilla.
