The workers, members of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, voted last Friday and Monday and overwhelmingly approved the agreement with the hospital, which is part of Westchester Medical Center. It was formerly Saint Francis Hospital.
The contract, which extends through the end of 2017, includes a legally binding grievance procedure, job protection and employment security, improved wages and a guaranteed three percent increase retroactive to January 1, 2015 and three percent increases on July 1, 2016 and 2017, improved and more affordable health benefits, the 1199 Child Care Fund, and 1199 Training and Upgrading Fund.
“We are beginning a new culture where those of us who work here will have a say about working conditions and quality care,” said Patient Care Tech Connie Ashe.
The union represents registered nurses, service workers and business office and clerical workers.
