Albino Burmese python waiting for adoption

BRIARCLIFF MANOR – Eleven snakes including 13-foot male Green Granite
Burmese Python weighing some 60 pounds have a new home.

The reptiles were removed from a residence in Lake Peekskill on Monday
after determining the owner could no longer care for them.

Ten of the snakes, all boa constrictors and pythons, were in good condition,
according to reptile expert Chris Cooper, who supervised their transfer
to the SPCA. One of the snakes, a Columbia Red-Tailed Boa, was euthanized
at the shelter due to fatal injuries it suffered at the Lake Peekskill
home.

The snakes included two other larger reptiles – an 11-foot-long
Albino Burmese Python and a young Burmese Python of five feet in length.

SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Director Ernest Lungaro said Cooper has assisted
the SPCA in the removal of reptiles in the past, most recently 35 lizards
and turtles seized during an animal cruelty investigation in Port Chester.
