More opposition to using these Pelton Street structures for a
homeless shelter

MONTICELLO – Monticello Village Trustee Carmen Rue says Sullivan County’s choice for a homeless shelter in the village is “poorly chosen.”
The property in question on Pelton Street was taken off the county auction list of foreclosed properties and Rue said that may have violated the actual agreement between the county and village, if not the spirit of the agreement, by not consulting with local elected officials first.
“The county is obligated to work together with our local governments in unity as a team,” Rue said. “If they refuse to do so, I believe the board of trustees should consider amending or cancelling our contract with the county treasurer’s office to manage future tax sales.”
Rue said the county and village should work together “to identify a more appropriate site, including one of the more viable sites within the Village of Monticello, to meet this important public need.”
Most county legislators and village officials oppose the Pelton Street site.
