HIGHLAND FALLS – The Village
of Highland Falls is going to receive a $25,000 from the state Department
of State to study possible government reorganization with the Town of
Highlands.

The two municipalities began discussions five years ago about cost-saving
measures to increase efficiency of overlapping services to residents,
while maintaining or enhancing the quality of those services.

The state money will allow the village to look into options for local
government re-organization, including the possibility of dissolution of
the village and opportunities related to consolidation of police and DPW/highway
services.
Village Mayor Patrick Flynn said Highland Falls would remain as a hamlet
just as Fort Montgomery is, but with one central town government.
