Couple charged with animal neglect at farm

MINISINK – Following an investigation of a citizen complaint, State Police arrested a husband and wife for failure to provide proper care for their animals.
Steven Doss and his wife Loretta Doss, both 46, were charged following executive of search warrants on Tuesday, September 1 at a farm leased by the Doss family in the Town of Minisink.
Police discovered 48 rabbits, three horses, three cows, three goats, a pot-bellied pig, a dog, and a cat that were not given the proper care.  The dog and cat were brought to a local veterinary hospital for treatment of illnesses.
The remaining animals were removed to local animal shelters.
Police also found a snapping turtle at the farm. It was removed.
The Doss couple was issued appearance tickets to appear in town court. They were also ticketed for possessing the turtle in violation of state environmental conservation law.        
Troopers were assisted by state environmental conservation police, the Humane Society of Port Jervis and Deerpark, Port Jervis Animal Control, the Port Jervis building inspector, Farm Sanctuary, and Pets Alive, an animal sanctuary in Middletown.
