GOSHEN – A Highland Falls man faces 18 years to life in prison when sentenced in November for killing his wife.
Leonard Salters, 52, pled guilty in Orange County Court on Monday to second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of Junco Salters, who was 62 at the time of her death of June 20, 2014.
District Attorney David Hoovler said this type of domestic violence destroys
families.
“This case is a prime example of domestic violence but there were also some mental health issues,” Hoovler said. “We try to do everything we can in the district attorney’s office to keep the spouses and domestic partners of those involved in relationships safe. The only way that can be done, people have to report domestic violence and when they report domestic violence, we will take it as seriously as possible.”
When Highland Falls Police officers arrived at the murder scene after being called by neighbors, Salters ran out of the apartment with blood on his clothes.  He jumped in his car and took off, but was eventually caught in Irvington, New Jersey when his car struck a concrete barrier on the Garden State Parkway.
Investigation revealed Salters had stabbed his wife four times in the torso and stomach during an argument at their residence.  He was indicted for the murder and for possessing the knife he used to kill his wife.
