TOWN OF WALLKILL – Efforts to have the state legislature approve red light cameras for the Route 211 shopping center district in the Town of Wallkill will resume next January.
The town filed its request just before the legislature adjourned this past spring, but because of the rush to go home, lawmakers did not take it up.
Town Supervisor Daniel Depew believes it will have the support of the
area’s state legislators and will have a better shot at passage
next year.
“The resolution authorizes up to four,” Depew said. “My personal opinion was no more than two, but it became a legislative compromise in the town board; there were some who wanted unlimited amounts on 211 and then there were others who were more restricted like myself who wanted two and the compromise came to four.”.
If approved in Albany, the Wallkill plan would start with two cameras and go up to four.
