GOSHEN – A mosquito pool carrying West Nile virus has been found in the Village of Goshen, County Health Commissioner Dr. Eli Avila said Wednesday.
With the virus still prevalent in the region, he urged residents to wear appropriate clothing and consider sprays when outdoors. They should also check their property for any pooling or stagnant water. Mosquitoes can breed in stagnant water for more than four days.
To reduce the mosquito population around one’s house and property, they should keep containers outside drained, drain water from pool covers, remove leaves and debris on those covers, change water in birdbaths twice a week, and clean vegetation and debris from the edges of ponds.
