GOSHEN – Following a court decision saying the Orange County Legislature vote to create a local development corporation to sell the Valley View nursing home was illegal, the majority Republican caucus Thursday called for dissolution of the LDC.
“The New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division spoke loud and clear by its decision of August 5, 2015, ruling that the Orange County Legislature’s resolution authorizing the transfer of Valley View to a local development corporation required a two-thirds vote,” said Majority Leader Melissa Bonacic.
The legislature’s vote for the transfer was only a simple majority.
“The LDC must be dissolved; it no longer serves any public purpose,” Bonacic said. “We are asking the county attorney to take all appropriate steps to wind down the LDC and file the necessary documents with the Secretary of State for dissolution.”
Bonacic said lawmakers will “continue to explore creative ways to attain cost savings for the taxpayers of Orange County.”
