KINGSTON – A resolution adopted in July that gives the Ulster County Audit Committee authority to select an auditor and not bring it to the legislature or the county executive, for oversight, was vetoed on Thursday by County Executive Michael Hein.
“I have great concerns that this proposed local law as written, could undermine internal controls, compromise the county’s own procurement policy and disenfranchise over 90 percent of Ulster County residents,” said Hein in a statement explaining the veto.
Hein asked the legislature “… to re-consider and adopt an improved local law that protects the rights of all of Ulster County’s residents and embraces financial best practices.”
The vote in July was 14 in favor, eight opposed and one absent.  A two-thirds majority of 16 votes would be required to override a veto.
