NEWBURGH – Grand plans previously proposed for Newburgh economic development have not worked, so a just-released Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress White Paper recommends the city should take the slow approach.
The document, prepared for the Orange County Industrial Development Agency,
said Newburgh does not need to aim for the fence, said Pattern President
Jonathan Drapkin.
“A series of singles and doubles can score runs as easily as a home run and that in Newburgh’s case may be a better strategy for producing jobs throughout the city,” Drapkin said. “As a result of that, the job suggests – and there are about a half a dozen in here – some will show job creation almost immediately and some will produce jobs over a period of time.”
The White Paper recommended encouraging institutions to purchase locally sources goods and services; the development of a deep-water port facility; job training for advanced manufacturing; and promoting Newburgh as a prime filming location.
