Thruway electrician charged with burning down salt shed

LARCHMONT – A Pittsfield, MA man,
who is an electrician for the New York State Thruway Authority, has been
charged with felony arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a salt
shed along the highway in Larchmont.

State Police said Richard Cass, 54, was in the shed after business hours
on Wednesday, August 19 where he “recklessly” started the
fire that destroyed the shed and several pieces of Thruway heavy equipment.

He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Mamaroneck Town
Court.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Thruway Authority, Westchester
County Cause and Origin Team, Mamaroneck Town Police and several local
fire departments.
