KINGSTON – A man, who planned on robbing his ex-girlfriend after he had arranged to buy drugs from her, was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Tuesday to 14 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. Ryan Noval previously pled guilty to armed robbery.
On August 27, 2014, Ryan Noval and his girlfriend, Nicole Halter, set up the deal to meet his ex-girlfriend to buy heroin. After Halter gave the other woman just $80 and was told was insufficient, she got out of the victim’s vehicle. Noval exited his vehicle with a loaded shotgun, approached the victim, placed it to her head and took the $80 back as well as an additional $200.
The victim sped away, but not before Noval fired one round of birdshot into the back window striking her in the back. She was able to drive away and call 911 for help.
Noval, Halter and a third person with them left and bought beer before going to Halter’s home, where after a brief standoff with police, Noval was arrested and the shotgun was located in the house.
The victim sustained several pellet wounds to her back and was treated at the hospital.
Halter previously pled guilty to conspiracy and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
