Walkway Over the Hudson, shared with Ulster County,
is a very popular attraction

POUGHKEEPSIE – At $508 million, tourists coming to Dutchess County last year spent over $50 million, or ten percent, more than they did the year before.
Tourism Director Mary Kay Vrba said the Walkway Over the Hudson, FDR Estate, food and beverage, farms and farm markets are among the attractions that draw people to the county.
Dutchess is also a very popular wedding destination because of the relatively close proximity to New York, Rockland and Westchester, said Vrba.
“I believe a lot of the couples see a better value for the dollar being spent and we have some very unique areas as well that attribute to the wedding business. Some of our bed and breakfasts and some of our historic sites provide services for individuals to get married on their sites and I think this is very appealing to a couple getting married either for the first time or a repeat time,” she said.
Vrba said they have seen an increase in European and Canadian travelers coming to Dutchess.
