NEWBURGH – Long-time Newburgh officer Daniel Cameron may have been named police chief by City Manager Michael Ciaravino, but the former acting chief and lieutenant must pass one last hurdle to make his appointment permanent.
Cameron must take a civil service test administered by the city, and that is likely to be given in the spring of next year, according to City Civil Service Commission Chairwoman Michelle Mills.
By law, the city must choose one of the top three scorers on the test and it is expected that Cameron will score be among them.
In order for a candidate to take the civil service test, he or she must meet specific qualifications.
