MID-HUDSON – Verizon workers from
across the Hudson Valley/Catskills region joined coworkers from across
the east coast in a lunchtime rally calling for a fair and reasonable
contract.

“We’re ready to bargain. But despite $1 million a month in
profit, Verizon still insists on everything from eliminating job security
to taking away benefits from workers injured on the job,” said Dennis
Trainor, vice president of Communications workers of America.

State Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh) marched on the picket
line at the Monticello event.

“We want a contract settled and we want the platinum parachute ended;
the CEO, if you look at some of the documentation about the amount of
money that they are making,” she said. “We are also asking
for asking for broadband; it’s their universal right and we need
people to be able to work, get a good living and Verizon has to do the
right thing.”
Other rallies were held Thursday in New Windsor, Kingston, Poughkeepsie
and Catskill.
