Greco: “… wear all of those
hats appropriately …”

THIELLS – Rockland County resident and 32-year former member of the State Police, Michael Greco, was sworn in as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of NY Wednesday evening.
Greco was unanimously confirmed by the Senate with a 96-0 vote and was
personally recommended to hold the position by Senator Charles Schumer.
Greco is the first Latino in history to hold this post.
Greco said he does not intend to make drastic changes in his new post, but rather he wants to use his position to maintain proper functionality of the Marshal’s office.
“First and foremost, I want to make sure the responsibilities that the Marshal’s Service is tasked with and that’s a lot of different responsibilities; for example, the security of the federal judiciary, the courthouses, the judges and such that it’s done to the best of our ability and that the mission is accomplished,” said Greco. “We wear a lot of hats in the Marshal’s Service. My job is to ensure that we wear all of these hats appropriately, that we accomplish the mission at the end of the day and that at the end of the day my people are also going home safely.”
Greco was formerly a State Police liaison between the NYPD and FDNY.
The swearing in ceremony was held at North Rockland High School. This was a special location for Greco since all four of his children graduated from there and his mother, Diana, was a Rockland elementary school principal.
Greco was sworn in with his late grandmother Rosa Maria’s bible by Chief Justice of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY Loretta Pleska.  During his speech, Greco said that much of his integrity and values were instilled in him as the result of his grandmother’s teachings.
As a US Marshal, Greco will now preside over approximately 100 deputies.
