HYDE PARK – US Senator Charles Schumer came to the FDR National Historic Site in Hyde Park on Wednesday to send home the message that funding for that facility and others around the nation should not be cut by congressional appropriators.
Schumer said that House and Senate fiscal year 2016 Interior Appropriation bills underfund programs that provide “critical financial support” for publicly funded historic parks.
“We want to make sure that the FDR Historic Site gets the kind of funding and maintenance it needs,” the senator said.  “It’s a great tourist attraction; it brings a lot of dollars to Dutchess County, but in the House and Senate, the funding is at risk because of slashes in the budget for the National Parks and Historic Sites, so we are going to try to get that restored.”
Schumer called the FDR estate the “jewel in the crown of Hudson Valley’s booming tourism industry.”
