Man shot to death in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – A 67-year-old man was shot
to death and two others were wounded in the latest violence in Newburgh.

The incident, at 1:33 a.m. on Thursday, occurred at South Lander Street
and Courtney Avenue. The dead man was identified as Samuel Stubbs.
Police Chief Daniel Cameron said two other men, ages 30 and 34, sustained
non-life threatening wounds.

He said the motive appears to be a robbery of the men, who were participating
in a card game.
Mayor Judy Kennedy said the violence goes beyond Newburgh. “This
is senseless nonsense” precipitated often by a drug culture nationwide,
she said.

“This is a violent culture we live in. When you are listening to
violent movies, you are playing violent video games; you are talking violent
in your music. Everywhere around us in violence and the kids are growing
up without any conscious about just taking out a gun and killing somebody,”
she said.

miche State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office
are assisting in the investigation.
