Reese: 25 to life

KINGSTON – The former New York City Department of Environmental
Protection employee who shot and killed his coworker a the agency’s
Kingston offices on February 3 of last year was sentenced in Ulster County
Court on Thursday to 25 years to life in state prison.

David Reese, 55, of Gilboa, was convicted of intentional murder for shooting
Aron Thomas, 33, to death at the DEP offices. Thomas died of a gunshot
wound to his neck that severed his spinal cord.

At sentence, Thomas’s widow spoke about the devastating loss of
her “best friend.”

Reese was arrested by Kingston City Police the day after the shooting.

Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said they believe the
sentence to be just and hopes it will bring some closure to Thomas’
family and the community.
