SAUGERTIES – Independence Party candidate incumbent Saugerties Town Supervisor Gregory Helsmoortel has been selected in Republican caucus to run on that ballot line in the November general election.
He beat out Gaetana Ciarlante, who will be running on the Independence and Reform Party lines.
Helsmoortel will also be running on the Independence and Democratic Party lines.
“The real losers are the people of Saugerties, who were robbed of their right to elect their representatives and, instead, had the same candidate shoved down their throats from both sides,” said Ciarlante.
She ran in a three-way race against Helsmoortel and Kelly Myers two years ago.
