ALBANY – The Hudson Valley ranks third
in terms of job growth in 2014. At 2.4 percent, the region comes in behind
New York City at 11.3 percent and Long Island at 4.9 percent.

New York reached the highest employment level ever of more than nine million
jobs last year, adding 538,000 jobs since 2009, according to a report
from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released on Monday.

The Finger Lakes region scored a 2.1 percent job growth followed by the
Capital region at 2.0 percent and Western region at 1.5 percent.

Four regions lost jobs – Central New York lost 0.1 percent, North
Country lost 1.5 percent, Southern Tier lost 2.2 percent and Mohawk Valley
jobs fell by 2.9 percent.

“Six years after the Great Recession, growth is steady statewide,
but some specific regions are still struggling,” DiNapoli said.
“While unemployment has dropped sharply, more New Yorkers are relying
on part-time jobs or have dropped out of the labor force.”
