NEW CITY – The first in a series of hearings conducted by the state Senate Committee on Social Services was held in Rockland County on Thursday.
Committee Chairman David Carlucci (D, New City) said they want to hear from the experts about current support services for persons receiving social services and what can be done to reduce poverty.
“Expanding the middle class is something that is being left behind for too long and I believe we can develop strategies and tools to help people that are living in the middle class to expand and make it stronger,” Carlucci said.
The committee will be looking at issues related to homelessness; work training and education; services for children, adults and seniors; current levels of funding for non-profit providers and government entities; and modernizing the current welfare system.
