KINGSTON – A state parks grant of $300,000 for upgrades to the City of Kingston’s Forsyth Park was in jeopardy because of what Mayor Shayne Gallo claimed was city employees Kevin Gilfeather and Steven Noble’s “inaction in administering the Forsyth grant award.”
That state grant included $70,000 for the Junior League for Kingston
Kinderland II, but it risked being provided because of “administrative
and compliance issues,” said Gallo.
He put the blame on Gilfeather and Noble for not providing the state with documentation of volunteer hours as a match for the grant and he had praise for the Junior League and city Economic Development Director Gregg Swanzey.
“Thank you to the volunteers responding,” Gallo said.  “Thank you for the hard work of the Junior League, which made this possible, not only the project, but to ensure the match with the volunteer efforts and thank you to Mr. Swanzey for acting in a competent, very thorough manner to identify the shortcomings, provide the recommended fix, and working in conjunctions with the junior League representatives, you can see the results.”
Noble is challenging Gallo for the Democratic nomination for mayor in the September primary.
