POUGHKEEPSIE – A defaced 9mm handgun
was recovered from a Poughkeepsie neighborhood Thursday night after two
city police officers on patrol chased a man riding a bicycle believed
to be stolen.

The officers were in the area of Smith and Mansion streets around 9:17
p.m. when they spotted the man on the yellow bike. The man fled on the
bike and then on foot before jumping a fence leading to the rear of 29
Lent Street.

Police, with the aid of a K-9 unit, tracked the man without success but
found the defaced gun with eight live rounds at the point where the man
crossed the fence.

The investigation is continuing.
